چکیده

Introduction Titanium dioxide is a white mineral that is used to color paints, plastics, paper and other materials and is approved by the FDA as both a direct (with restricted uses) and indirect food additive. It is a non-genotoxic poorly soluble particulate. As such it has been found to not cause cancer by various routes in a number of animal models except for the rat. Titanium dioxide, as with other poorly soluble particulates, will cause lung tumors in rats when exposures are sufficient to cause particle overload, a condition associated with impaired particle clearance and macrophage function and chronic inflammation. The rat is particularly sensitive to developing this condition. This treatise discusses carcinogenic testing of titanium dioxide, mechanisms the development of lung tumors with particle overload, the uniqueness of the rat model and assessments of whether or not findings in the rat model indicate risk to man. Because there is a different potency in the rat model between pigmentary and ultrafine titanium dioxide, these are discussed separately.

Effect of nano and balk titanium dioxide on flowering and morphophysiological traits of Rosa damascena under different irrigation regimes

Various environmental stresses are one of the most important causes of many problems in agricultural production and drought stress is one of these tensions. Considering the role of nanoparticles in improving the yield and resistance of plants to environmental stresses, this experiment was conducted on Rosa damascena as a factorial experiment based on a completely randomized design with three re...

Bioassay of titanium dioxide for possible carcinogenicity.

A bioassay of titanium dioxide for possible carcinogenicity was conducted by administering the test chemical in feed to Fischer 344 rats and B6C3F1 mice. Groups of 50 rats of each sex and 50 mice of each sex were administered titanium dioxide in the diet at one of two doses, either 25,000 or 50,000 ppm, for 103 weeks and then observed for 1 additional week. Matched controls consisted of 50 untr...

Carcinogenicity studies of diesel engine exhausts in laboratory animals: a review of past studies and a discussion of future research needs.

Diesel engines play a vital role in world economy, especially in transportation. Exhaust from traditional diesel engines using high-sulfur fuel contains high concentrations of respirable carbonaceous particles with absorbed organic compounds. Recognition that some of these compounds are mutagenic has raised concern for the cancer-causing potential of diesel exhaust exposure. Extensive research ...

Effect of Methanol and Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles on Phytochemical Properties of Artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.)

Extended Abstract Introduction and Objective: In recent years, studies have focused on the use of new compounds that can be synthesized inside the plant and increase the photosynthetic efficiency of the plant. Some of these compounds include micronutrients and alcohols. Alcohols such as methanol as a carbon source will increase photosynthetic efficiency and improve plant growth parameters. Tit...
